The Book Smuggler 2023

New Blog Posts, Book Reviews, Short Stories, and More…

Hello, dear book lovers! It is a pleasure of mine to finally be able to write and post again. I know it has been a while and I am sorry for not posting any updates. I hope you haven’t missed me too much ;). Today’s post is going to be short but specific. I want to let you all know what I am planning for my blog from here onwards and tell you a bit of what’s been happening in my life recently! Keep reading if you are interested in learning more…

The past 8 months (it has been a long time since my last post, hasn’t it?) have been so hectic and busy that I just couldn’t find the time or energy to sit down and write for a long while… I remember having a few minutes of spare time that I would rather spend reading as much as I could or posting about those books on my bookstagram account.

Blogging is fun and I am glad that I became a blogger 3 years ago- but it does require dedication, discipline and time, and I’ve lacked those lately. Sometimes life gets in the way… I wanted to make an introductory / welcome-back post today, before blogging again because I know it has been a few months since I last posted.

I want to introduce myself again and tell you a little bit about me, my life, and my ideas for the blog moving forward. I am on college break right now, and, for the past few days, I have been brainstorming new ideas for blog articles, book reviews, and additions of a few original writings of mine (poems, short stories, etc.). I want to add a little bit more of that here and there too :). So with no more to say, let’s get started…

Hello again! My name is Andy, aka A.M. Aguilar, I am 20 years old (I am turning 21 in July) and I am from Honduras, a beautiful and tropical country in Central America. I have been a book blogger since May of 2020 (almost 3 years now <3) and have been a ravenous book reader since I was very young. My passion and love for books and reading led me to create this space on the internet which I have named: The Book Smuggler.

I have had the opportunity of meeting hundreds of fellow book lovers from all over the world during the past few years and it has been an amazing journey of building this blog. Being able to talk about my favorite book genres, stories, characters and much more. I have also created a Bookstagram profile with the same handle, @thebookssmuggler, where you can follow along this book blogging journey!

My blog is divided in two sections, at this moment: “blog” where you can find articles like “Favorite Books to Media Adaptations,” “What Makes a Book my ‘Favorite’?,” and more; and “reviews” where you can find the extended reviews I’ve made for books like “A Darker Shade of Magic,” “The Raven Boys,” and “Six of Crows.” Welcome, dear book lover.

From here onwards, I am hoping to write and post more in both sections. I also have the plan to begin writing original short stories and poems on various topics, so at some point you may see that addition as well. Follow my instagram account so you can stay tuned for those updates! 🙂

A few days after I posted my last article in 2022,“Top 5 July & August Reads”, I applied and started working my first full-time job as a Medical Over-the-Phone Bilingual Interpreter, AND, I was taking college classes in the afternoon. It was an exhausting routine, studying and working, but it was an opportunity I had to take as I was still receiving online classes. I learned a lot, gained a bunch of experience and knowledge, but I was burned out by the end of the year.  Definitely wouldn’t recommend it for the long-term…

In January of this year, 2023, I went back to being a full-time student only and dedicated my whole afternoons to it as I was back on campus after 3 years of solely online classes. That has been a great experience too: getting to interact with fellow classmates and professors face-to-face, working on group projects and workshops, etc. There’s no comparison to an in-person college experience. The pandemic really impacted the education system in that sense. And now I am used to this routine again, so I can finally organize my schedule to fit in blogging a few times a week :D.

I hope that you have enjoyed this small but important announcement and update and that you are as excited as I am for new articles, reviews, and posts to arrive at The Book Smuggler. Wishing that everyone is spending their time well, staying safe and sound, and taking care of yourselves. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, dear book lovers, for following along my bookish journey and for staying here. I can’t thank you enough for all your support and kind messages. Best of luck in everything you do!

HAPPY READING, BOOK LOVERS!
