My 7 Best Fiction Reads of 2019

This past year, I had the chance of reading many wonderful books. I also reached my goal of reading 65 books! This year, 2020, I am rooting for 100 books πŸ™‚ . Even if we are a few months into 2020 already, I had to share all this amazing books I discovered last year. All of this books are fiction books and I highly recommend each of them and their own sagas.

Many of the books in this list are part of a book series but I will be mentioning my favorite book from each incredible saga. Other books are stand-alones or will have their sequel this year (I’m over excited for all of the upcoming sequels πŸ˜€ ). So let’s get started…

Today I bring you: the 7 best fiction books I read in 2019

1. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

I hate to say this but even if everyone read the Harry Potter series back in the 2000’s when they were first published, I had the audacity to read them until last year. I entirely regret reading them so late but I am glad I finally did read them. They are completely worth it! Super recommended if you have not read them yet.
My favorite book from the 7-book saga has to be (literally could not decide, all of them are amazing!) “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.” I fell in love with the Harry Potter saga since book one and J.K. Rowling never stopped surprising me. I was amazed at how every single detail (and I mean EVERY SINGLE ONE, even the most oblivious things) is extremely important for the resolution of the plot. I loved Rowling’s writing style. Even if the books were originally intended for children, they are beautifully written and everyone can understand them.
There was not a single book that did not surprise me and each one kept getting better and better. I loved all the incredible and inspiring characters (Super fan of Hermione πŸ˜‰ ), the magic, the spells, the school for wizards (Hogwarts, PLEASE!), and the famous villain. Lord Voldemort made a perfect antihero for all the Harry Potter books. They were stunning.
Definitely 5/5

2. City of Glass by Cassandra Clare

This has to be one of my favorite books of all time (just re-read it this month πŸ˜‰ ) “City of Glass” is the third book in the The Mortal Instruments, a series of six young adult fantasy novels. The books follow the story of a young girl, Clary Fray, who gets involved in this new world of demon hunters and downworlders by accident. And of course everything is a life or death situation for our fellow shadowhunters  πŸ™  . Cassandra Clare has created one of the most diverse and exciting universes in Fantasy.
The Shadowhunters universe has everything: demons and demon hunters, vampires, werewolves, fairies and warlocks. (Magnus Bane being the best warlock ever πŸ˜€ ) I loved every single book in “The Mortal Instruments”and City of Glass has the incredible Mortal War and the huge plot twists that had me needing book 4. I really recommend “The Mortal Instruments” to anyone out there who has not discovered Cassandra Clare’s amazing writing yet.
4/5

3. Serpent and Dove by Shelby Mahurin

Serpent and Dove was definitely a brilliant debut for Shelby Mahurin. Serpent and Dove is the first installment of this duology (Book 2 is out September 2020). I was drawn to this book for how interesting the plot sounded and (even if they tell us not to judge a book by its cover) the beautiful cover. I do not regret it at all.

Serpent and Dove is full of everything we love in a good book: a fully realized heroine (I love when authors write about amazing and relatable women even if it is in a Fantasy world), a huge system of magic for witches and witch covens, and witch hunters. The whole plot was incredible, it is a very unique idea and I loved the first point of view narrators in this book. And of course the relationship between Lou and Reid was unexpected and sweet, which made me love it a lot more . Just like Sarah J. Maas said: “it is an absolute gem of a book.”

It was a perfect debut for Mahurin and I can not wait for “Blood and Honey” this September. πŸ˜€

5/5

4. Angels and Demons by Dan Brown

Dan Brown has a series of books with his most famous character Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon, and I love every single one of his books. Dan Brown has an amazing way of writing and of building a super intriguing plot. He literally left me needing to know more in every chapter and once I begun I could not stop reading.

I love how in every book you are not only following the character’s development and the story’s plot; you also get to learn about many influential people from history like Leonardo da Vinci, all the early Christian history, spiking routes to Paris and Rome, all about many secret societies, and many more historical thrillers that make these books perfect.

No matter how hard you try you can’t predict the ending. It always is something unbelievable and incredible! I recommend every single one of Dan Brown’s books but mostly Angels and Demons ;).

4/5

5. Graceling by Kristin Cashore

“Graceling” is the first installment in the Graceling Realm and it is amazing. Kristin created her own world with seven kingdoms, each with princes, kings, courts and assassins. Our amazing main character, Katsa (women characters that fight for themselves and defend justice and are completely sparkplug are my all time favorites), is a Graceling: one of the rare people in her land born with an invaluable and extreme grace or skill.

The originality in this book had me reading nonstop. Cashore created a very original plot with villains and heroes and all the amazing young and old characters (coff coff *Prince Po* coff coff) that I admired and loved. I really, really liked this book. The ending left me speechless and I surely need to read books 2 and 3. I need to recommend you all this great book!

3.8/5

 6. The Wicked King by Holly Black

Faerie worlds are my weakness and when I discovered “The Folk of the Air” series I could not love them more. Faerie courts with the beautiful fey, princes, High Kings and magic make a faerie world startling and Holly Black met every single one of these points with her incredible story. The Wicked King is the second book in this trilogy by the amazing Holly Black. I loved it since book one (The Cruel Prince) and the final installment of the trilogy, Queen of Nothing, was the perfect ending.

These books follows the story of the mortal girl Jude and her desire to belong in Faerie despite her mortality. When she was seven when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King. To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.

The Wicked King had the perfect follow up for book one and it completely amazed me every single time. It definitely surpassed my expectations and I was astounded with the ending and needed the sequel. I loved Holly Black’s writing style and the original characters and the world she created.

5/5

7. Magnus Chase and the gods of Asgard by Rick Riordan

Rick Riordan is with no doubt one of my favorite authors. I love his writing style and his incredible way of merging mythology with modern day stories and creating amazing characters with intriguing adventures.

One day, Magnus learns that someone is trying to track him down a man his mother had always warned him about. When Magnus tries to outmaneuver his uncle, he falls right into his clutches. Randolph starts rambling about Norse history and Magnus’s birthright: a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years. Stories about the gods of Asgard, wolves, and Doomsday made the books completely stunning.

Magnus Chase is based in Norse Mythology and I completely loved it. Riordan included bewildering and breathtaking adventures with beautiful characters. The way he included characters from various religions, races, orientations and beliefs was amazing! Especially the cameos of our all time favorites Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ characters. I loved all the Magnus Chase trilogy :D. It was an absolute treasure.

Obviously 5/5
